Sapphire Jewellery

The cool blue twin to July’s fiery ruby, September’s birthstone is sapphire, and can be any colour of the rainbow with the exception of ruby red!  The name sapphire comes from the Latin for blue, sapphirus. Ancient cultures prized blue sapphire as symbolic of the heavens. In ancient Persia, it was believed the world sat on a giant sapphire, which made the sky blue.  Wearing sapphire was believed to protect from harm, aid healing and act as an antidote to poison. September’s birthstone has long been a symbol of sincerity, truth and faithfulness. Sapphire is used to mark 45th wedding anniversaries.
