Unlike other birthstones, June’s birthstone does not come from the ground (technically, it’s not even a stone!) Instead, June’s enchanting birthstone, the pearl, is found in oceans, lakes and rivers around the world and is made by oysters and mussels. Pearls come in a wide range of sizes, colours and shapes, meaning those lucky enough to have them as their birthstone can wear a different pearl for every week of the year! In ancient times, pearls were thought to form when dewdrops fell into the seas and were believed to grant long life and prosperity to the wearer. Pearls are now associated with humility, innocence and simplicity. Pearl is the traditional gift for a 30th wedding anniversary.
