We spend a lot of time remodelling old jewellery in our in-store workshop – we really get a kick out of it!
Many people have old pieces at home in drawers, in boxes or tucked away – pieces they don’t wear or that are very dated. The jewellery may have been inherited, be of great sentimental value, be broken or have parts missing. It could be your Mum’s engagement ring, a brooch from a great aunt or a birthday present that you never really liked. Remodelling old jewellery is a wonderful opportunity to recycle your metals, diamonds and gemstones into a new and unique piece of contemporary jewellery that you can wear and enjoy for years to come.
How does it work? View the steps involved in remodelling below…
STEP 1 – EXAMINING YOUR OLD JEWELLERY
When you first call into us please do bring everything with you. We will weigh your gold and measure your gemstones to see what is suitable for remodelling. Some pieces are not suitable for melting and old stones can be broken or chipped – we will advise on what to use for your new piece and what is best to set aside.
STEP 2 – DESIGN CONSULTATION
Some people come to us with a very clear idea of what they want. Other people are not so sure and that is not a problem. Depending on the flow and direction of our conversation with you, we will be able to show you sketches and images of pieces of jewellery that we have previously made as well as giving you pieces from our collections to try on. These will give you a feel for what is possible and will give us an idea of what you do and don’t like.
The most important decision to be made before coming to see us is the type of piece you would like – a ring, a necklace, a bangle, earrings, cufflinks? Once you have made that decision we can guide you through the design process.
STEP 3 – SKETCHING
We will take note of all of the relevant details and be back in touch within a couple of days with further information – ideas, options, sketches and quotes. It is worth taking the time to get these things right.
STEP 4 – QUOTE
We will always try to work within a customer’s budget. There’s no point in working on designs and ideas that are beyond the budget so do let us know if you have a particular price in mind.
Once we have worked out the exact details, we will email quotes to you. We take 20% to secure the order and the balance is payable on collection.
STEP 5 – HANDCRAFTED FOR YOU
This is when you sit back and relax and our goldsmiths get to work! Remodelling orders generally take 5 – 6 weeks. That said, we always try to work within a customer’s timeframe so if you have a particular deadline, please do let us know and we will do what we can to meet it.
STEP 6 – COLLECTION
This is the fun bit! We will let you know as soon as your order is ready for collection.
We love remodelling and we hope you will too! It gives us the opportunity to work on something very special and unique for you, which is a great honour. You will have a bespoke piece of jewellery which has an interesting and personal story behind it, which we want you to enjoy and treasure for years to come.
