One of the nicest parts of my job is being a part of such happy times in people’s lives, in particular engagements and weddings.
Helping someone choose their engagement ring is such a lovely thing to do and I love hearing about the (often hilarious!) proposals.
A lovely customer this week showed me a photo of how he wrapped a piece of twine around his fiancé’s finger when she said yes and it got me thinking of all of the quirky ways that a man (or woman!) can propose.
Here are my favourites…
PROPOSAL RINGS
While some men feel it is only right if they choose the engagement ring, most prefer to pop the question and then bring her to choose the ring herself. It is, afterall, one of the most important pieces of jewellery a girl will own and with so much choice nowadays a lot of women like to be involved. Some men like to choose a nice silver ring that their fiancé can then wear on her other hand once she has chosen the engagement ring – our narrow eclipse ring is a popular one for this.
You can, of course, choose something a bit more fun like a jelly ring (childhood throwback!)
Or with a pair of pliers and a bit of manipulation you can turn a fork into a ring quite easily!
GO BESPOKE
There is another option…. You can propose with a loose diamond or gemstone and then bring her to have a bespoke ring made. This is such a special process and one that she would always remember. You still get to propose with a diamond and she gets to choose the ring – what more could you ask for?! Obviously with all of the bespoke rings that we make here I am a fan of this idea!
SLICE OF BRACK?
You could always wait for Halloween and give her a slice of brack! Just make sure the right slice goes to the right person or it could get awkward!!
SWEET TOOTH?
For the brave ones who buy the ring solo why leave it in a ring box? Surprise her by putting it in a beautiful box of chocolates! We had this chocolate box in our window for Valentine’s day and the number of women who came in just to tell us how much they loved the idea was astonishing!
Chocolates and diamonds – it doesn’t get much better!!
ASKING THE QUESTION…
There are so many fun ways that you can actually ask the question.
For the graphic designers out there… Adapt a label for one of her favourite foods. Imagine opening the freezer and finding this tub of Ben & Jerry’s!
Simple but very effective! Get a cup printed with ‘Marry Me’ on the inside. Who wouldn’t want to wake up to that cup of coffee?!
Send her a card! Just make sure you’re there when the post is delivered!
