Remodelling old jewellery allows you to breathe fresh air into tired, dated pieces that are busy gathering dust. Just because you have diamonds and coloured gemstones in rings, it doesn’t mean you are limited to rings again in the future – sometimes a pendant will prove much more useful! One of our simple, contemporary designs that lends itself wonderfully to remodelling is our multistone pendant. Have a look at this medley and see for yourself!
Old gold jewellery springs to life when the stones are taken out of the original setting and incorporated into a modern neckpiece. This customer had enough gold for us to melt down to make the frame of her new pendant. Her gemstones were skilfully bezel set in new gold, the warm yellow tones working wonderfully with the pinky red of her gemstones and – voilà – she now is enjoying her incredible new piece!
One customer had a couple of brooches that she didn’t wear. One of these had various sapphires set in it. Once all the design details were confirmed, we melted her old gold in our in-house workshop in order to make her new pendant and reset her sapphires. She had more than enough metal for us to make the structure for her new piece – what a transformation!
And you’re not limited to round shapes! In this case our customer’s marquise diamonds inspired the marquise shape for her pendant so the unusual cut of the diamonds was gently reflected in the form of the frame – what an amazing piece! A marquise outer shape can also work really well with round stones, as shown in our sketch on the right.
It doesn’t have to be all about lots of gemstones – on some occasions the focus may be on a single diamond while the gold available can be used to create details within the structure of the piece. On this particular occasion our customer was keen for some original elements of her jewellery to be incorporated into her new piece, hence the interesting bail for the chain to run through on this neckpiece – we, and our customer, were thrilled with the end result!
