Now I hate to be the bearer of bad news…. but I’m not suggesting that if you work really hard around the house you will be lavished upon and treated to lots of diamonds!
No, the unfortunate truth is that one of the best ways to clean your rings is wearing them while washing the dishes! A bit of warm water and some washing up liquid will do wonders to bring the sparkle back in your stones. Now, whether you choose to pass on this information to your respective others is your decision!
We have come up with a handy list of ‘Dos and Don’ts’ for caring for your jewellery so if you decide you’d rather put the dishwasher on and your feet up, you can follow our other tips to keep your jewellery in great condition.
DOS
First and foremost – Do wear your jewellery! It is made to be worn and provided it is treated with a little care and respect it should last a long time.
Do bring your jewellery back to be serviced every couple of years. We can bring pieces back to as good as new… let us do what we are good at!
Do get your settings checked if a ring has taken a hard knock. A stone can come dislodged and the setting may need to be tightened. If you are in any doubt bring it in for us to quickly check.
DON’TS (PLEASE!)
Don’t throw jewellery into your bag! Chains kink, polished surfaces scratch, stones break… it is a minefield in there! Keep your jewellery in boxes, preferably in the box that comes with the piece as it will be the correct size for that specific item.
Don’t swim in chlorinated water wearing jewellery. Obviously be very careful about where you leave it; if possible, leave your jewellery in a safe place at home before going to a swimming pool.
Don’t do very heavy lifting/manual work while wearing your rings. They are not indestructible and can bend out of shape if too much pressure is exerted on them.
Don’t wrap your jewellery in tissues to protect it… they get thrown out more often than you’d think!
Don’t bring our jewellery to be repaired anywhere else! What we do is very particular and we pride ourselves on the quality that we achieve. We’d prefer to make sure that quality is maintained and can only do that if we repair the work ourselves.
I’ll leave you with this simple piece of advice – you wash your clothes , you polish your shoes, you get your coats dry cleaned and you only wear these things for a limited amount of time. Jewellery is no different! Care for it, clean it, look after it and most importantly, enjoy wearing it!
