In 1979 Walter Wittek set out to create a unique form of setting a diamond – abandoning the setting altogether. The result, the Niessing Tension Ring, laid a milestone for modern jewellery design.
This revolutionary idea uses the tension in the metal to clasp the diamond in place: an elaborate artistic and creative process that requires patience, concentration, mastery of the material and the most detailed precision.
The original tension ring is now a legally approved artwork and a copyrighted piece of jewellery.
Three decades later and Niessing continue to push the boundaries of modern jewellery design. The tension ring has now been developed into a number of beautiful designs, each one showing the diamond off at its best and a masterpiece of goldsmithing techniques.

THE BIG QUESTION
Is the diamond secure?!
Yes! Niessing tension rings like all diamond rings require care and maintenance. We request that you return your ring to us every two years to be checked and refinished by Niessing – provided this is done and your ring does not receive any hard knocks/falls your diamond will remain securely in the ring.
If your ring suffers any hard knocks or bangs please return it to us immediately so that the setting can be checked. This applies to all diamond rings, not just Niessing tension rings.
