We love creating bespoke jewellery pieces and the word must be spreading as bespoke orders are becoming the biggest part of our business. As jewellery is so personal, it is important that every detail is exactly right for you. Whether it is a small alteration to one of our existing designs or starting with a pencil and a blank sheet of paper – either way, we want to make sure that you leave with the perfect piece for you.
The process of having a bespoke piece made varies from one design to another but some things remain constant. We will do rough sketches to start, often followed by a computer aided design which can be rendered to a 3d model. This model can be be rotated 360 degrees on our iPad allowing you to see every angle and detail of the piece. We always give exact quotations before starting any work so that there are no surprises and we keep you informed every step of the way.
As Michael O’Dwyer does all of our gemstone setting we often collaborate with him for bespoke pieces with diamonds & other precious stones. We know that when we ask Michael to set a stone for us the the end result will be perfect!

A very loyal customer had bought Michael’s beautiful ‘Vienna Pendant’ and wanted to commission earrings to match. The cushion shape stone in the pendant wouldn’t be the most elegant shape for an earring so we asked Michael to go in search of the perfect pair of pink tourmaline pear shape gemstones in the exact same colour as the pendant.
Once Michael found the stones he worked out a beautiful design and sent it through. The earrings were to sit on the ear but drop slightly below it and should complement the shape of the pendant. The result was exquisite!
This customer was referred to us by her sister who had called into the shop while we were melting down some old gold jewellery to make a wedding ring. She knew that her sister had a diamond that she wanted mounted into a new design so she sent her into us.
It was important that the ring would have an overall contemporary feel with some additional diamonds and make a statement. We spent time searching through images of lots of different styles of rings to get a feel for the style of ring that would be perfect. This customer had a very clear idea of what she did and didn’t like so, in the end, designing the ring was easy. The diamond looked fantastic in its new bezel setting and the ring was both wide and modern without looking heavy.
Eclipse Gold Pendant
A good friend had a jewellery box full of old gold jewellery that she wasn’t wearing and wanted a new statement piece. I explained to her that we could design a piece from scratch or that we could work from one of our existing designs. She tried our ‘Eclipse Pendant’ and fell for it!
We traded her 9ct gold in for enough 18ct gold to make the pendant. She also had a diamond pendant that she no longer wore so we took the stone out and set it in the new pendant. The larger diamond looks beautiful in this pendant and the matte finish gold complemented her skin tone beautifully.
This customer came to us with a 3.15ct round diamond – she had commissioned a ring but was unhappy with the result so when she came to us she was nervous about getting another ring made but she had read that we are designers as well as goldsmiths so knew that we could advise on the best style of ring for her. Her main concern was that the diamond wasn’t shown at its best in the original ring which was quite heavy with a lot of metal. She wanted the diamond to stand proud of the ring and to be the focal point.
Michael had already made a large diamond solitaire, the ‘Avoca Ring’, and the design fit the brief exactly. A bar of metal was needed underneath the stone between each claw to make sure that the setting was strong enough and Michael suggested setting small diamonds in the supporting bars so that not too much metal was showing.
The new ring is magnificent – the perfect design for the diamond.
European Presidency Bookmark
We have also been lucky enough to make some exciting corporate orders including gifts for the European Presidency. The gifts needed to be suitable for both men and women, light weight, branded with the EU logo and fit a particular price point.
We got to work on some designs and came up with these silver bookmarks, engraved with the logo. Each piece was presented in a beautiful box with some information explaining that they were sterling silver, handmade in Ireland and hallmarked in the Dublin Assay Office.
